How do I load my WeSwap account?

You can load your WeSwap account with your debit card (Visa and Mastercard), via bank transfer, Apple Pay or Android Pay.  

Unfortunately, you can’t load by credit card, PayPal or direct debit.  

You’re only able to load in your home currency, which is the currency of the country where you signed up from. This will be either: 

  • British pounds (GBP) 
  • Euros (EUR) 
  • Norwegian kroner (NOK) 
  • Swedish kronor (SEK) 
  • Danish kroner (DKK). 

To load your account: 

  • Log in to your account via the website or app 
  • Under My Travel Wallet, on your home currency select Load Money 
  • If it’s the first time you’ve loaded your account, you will be asked what the source of your funds are – the government requires us to ask this. You only need to do this once. 
  • You’ll then be given the option to load via debit card, bank transfer or Apple Pay or Android Pay.  

Once you have loaded your account, you’re ready to swap! Just hit Swap and follow the prompts. More info on swapping can be found here. 

If you are loading via bank transfer, remember to include the reference number that is provided on the bank transfer details page. 

It will look something like this: WSWGBAAA1111. 

If you forget this, your load will take longer to process. We don't charge anything to load your account (as we are part of the single euro payments area) but some banks may impose a fee for this. Check with your bank if they charge you for bank transfers.  

You will see your money in your WeSwap wallet as soon as we receive it. We’ll also email you as soon as it arrives. For debit card loads this is normally instant, but bank transfers can sometimes take up to 24 hours (in the UK) or 3-5 business days (outside the UK).  

This is the required clearing time in the banking system and not a lag in any part of our WeSwap system. Your transfer should appear within 24 hours on business days, by the end of the day on Monday for transfers made at the weekend and the next working days for transfers made in a bank holiday. 

If it has taken unusually long, more than 24 hours for GBP transfers or more than 5 business days for other currencies, please do get in touch with us by sending a copy of your proof of payment. This will need to show:  

  • The IBAN or account numbers of the accounts 
  • The amount loaded 
  • The date of the load
