Contactless payment is a secure method for you to purchase products or services with your WeSwap card by simply tapping your card near a point-of-sale terminal like a card reader in a shop or restaurant.
Anytime you see this contactless symbol, it means you can use your card for a contactless payment.
Although you would not usually be required to enter your PIN, from time-to-time a CHIP & PIN transaction will be requested. This is designed to deter fraudulent use should your card be lost or stolen; each time a PIN is used it re-affirms you are in possession of your card.
Remember, once your card's activated, you'll need to use it first with CHIP and PIN to activate contactless payments.
HOW DOES CONTACTLESS WORK?
Wherever you see the contactless symbol, you can simply tap your card against the reader to pay for your purchase.
You must first make a contact transaction (i.e. CHIP and PIN) before you can tap your card to make contactless payments. This is a security feature that prevents someone from fraudulently using your card while it is on its way to you.
You can disable contactless payments by going in the card tab, under your card picture, scrolling down you will see a series of switches:
- Contactless payment – To allow contactless transactions the switch needs to be yellow. If you wish to deactivate contactless payments, click on the switch and this will turn grey .
CAN I USE MY CONTACTLESS CARD AT ANY POS DEVICE GLOBALLY?
You can use your WeSwap card at any contactless-enabled POS device that accepts Mastercard. Find out where you can use your card here.
WHAT ARE THE LIMITS FOR CONTACTLESS PAYMENTS?
Contactless payment limits vary by country. However, these have been set at £100 or the equivalent in another currency by WeSwap. If you want to make a transaction over £100, you will need to perform the transaction using your CHIP and PIN at the terminal.
Please be aware that the contactless transaction limit of £100 may vary depending on local and merchant's limits (may be more or less).
You can do a maximum of 5 consecutive contactless transactions, when you reach this limit you will need to use CHIP and PIN to reset the counter.
This limit is set by The Second Payment Services Directive (PSD2). You can find more information by visiting https://www.fca.org.uk/news/press-releases/fca-finalises-revised-psd2-requirements

There are no additional fees for contactless transactions.
IS THERE ANY CHANCE THAT CONTACTLESS PAYMENTS MAY BE TAKEN TWICE FROM MY ACCOUNT OR AN UNKNOWINGLY PAYMENT HAPPEN IF I SIMPLY WALK PAST A CARD READER?
No. Contactless card readers are only able to make one transaction at a time.
As a safeguard, each transaction must be complete or void before another can take place.
The purchase amount must be entered first for approval and your card has to be within centimetres of the reader to make a payment.
WILL I RECEIVE A RECEIPT FOR MY CONTACTLESS TRANSACTION?
If you'd like a receipt to confirm the contactless transaction, just ask the merchant when you pay.
CAN I USE CONTACTLESS TO GET CASH BACK?
Unfortunately no.
The WeSwap card doesn't have the cashback function and will not work for these types of transactions.
